Fair Haven, NJ ? U.S. Senate candidate Dick Zimmer today criticized Senator Frank Lautenberg for joining his Senate colleagues in a July 4th recess when New Jerseyans are struggling with $4 gas prices.
?While gas prices in New Jersey continue to top $4 per gallon, the U.S. House and Senate adjourned last week for their Fourth of July Recess without acting on any meaningful legislation to increase the supply of American-made energy and reduce gasoline prices,? said U.S. Senate candidate Dick Zimmer. ?Congress?s refusal to address soaring energy prices is just another example of how Washington doesn?t work. And our senior Senator is unfortunately part of the problem.”
The last time Frank Lautenberg was elected to the Senate (2002), gas prices in New Jersey were $1.35 per gallon. Now New Jerseyans are paying more than $4 per gallon. And Lautenberg has failed to do anything about the high prices at the pumps. What’s worse, Sen. Frank Lautenberg has accumulated a disturbing record during his 24 years in Washington by voting for giveaways to the oil and gas industry and against tax relief at the pump (see attached).
Zimmer asked motorists to send him their gas station receipts. Zimmer plans on delivering the receipts to Senator Lautenberg to demonstrate just how much motorists are paying every day at the pumps.
?I ask that motorists join me in sending Senator Lautenberg a message demanding immediate action on high gasoline prices,? Zimmer concluded.
