LEGISLATION CREATING ATLANTIC CITY TOURISM DISTRICT AND REVAMPING CASINO REGULATIONS SIGNED INTO LAW
Two bills that would create a tourism district in Atlantic City and streamline casino regulations, which were sponsored by Assemblymen Vince Polistina and John Amodeo, were signed into law today by Governor Christie.
?These laws mark the beginning of a revival in Atlantic City that will bring sorely needed jobs and economic growth to our region,” Polistina said. ?While others were willing to settle for less, Governor Christie, John and I fought for and won comprehensive reforms that provide Atlantic City with its best opportunity for success in a generation.?
Polistina and Amodeo, both R-Atlantic, sponsored the measures, S-11 and S-12, after insisting on certain improvements to the short-sighted proposals offered by Senator Whelan.
?I?m glad the Governor agreed with our effort to insist on doing something significant that will really generate construction and permanent casino and hospitality jobs as we set the city on a new course,? Amodeo said. ?These laws will allow us to take full advantage of the city?s world-class gaming, beaches, entertainment, hotels and restaurants to repackage Atlantic City as a flourishing tourist destination. That transformation begins today.?
The legislation signed by the Governor represent two of the major themes of a comprehensive plan proposed by Amodeo and Polistina in 2009 to revitalize the entire Atlantic City region.
