LoBiondo Announces More Than $113,000 for the
Absecon City Fire Company No. 1
Second grant awarded to local Atlantic County Fire Company
WASHINGTON, D.C. ? U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) today announced that the Absecon City Fire Company No. 1 was awarded $113,173 in federal funding. This is the volunteer fire company?s second federal grant under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, with $8,100 awarded in 2001. To date, 108 of New Jersey?s 2nd Congressional District fire and re scue organizations have received more than $17 million since the program began in 2001.
?This is great news for the Absecon City Fire Company No. 1. As first responders, they keep our families and our property safe. This grant symbolizes an ongoing partnership between the federal government and local services. Without question, the men and women of our fire and emergency services rightly deserve our continued support,? said LoBiondo.
LoBiondo personally contacted Absecon City Fire Chief Stanley Kolbe Sr with the good news.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments and emergency services to support their efforts to protect the communities they serve. For the 2007 program, Congress appropriated, and President Bush signed into law, $492.3 million in direct assistance to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources required to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
The Department of Homeland Security?s Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. For the last five years, Congressman LoBiondo?s office has hosted local seminars for area fire departments to highlight the benefits of this grant program, with the most recent seminar in March 2007.
