Atlantic County?s Republican legislative candidates today described the far-reaching policy agenda offered by the GOP legislative and party leadership as ?a breath of fresh air designed to blow away the discredited policies of the Democrats in power who have led the state into fiscal and governmental chaos.?
State Sen. James ?Sonny? McCullough and his Assembly running mates, Vince Polistina and John Amodeo, said the GOP proposals ?will bring strict fiscal responsibility and accountability to a state government badly in need of both.?
?Moreover, the proposals for significant strengthening of the ethical standards for public officials will restore public confidence in government and assure New Jerseyans that our party puts their interest above all else,? they said.
?The choice for change contract our party has offered is a significant and serious effort to implement wide-ranging changes in how state government conducts the people?s business,? the Republicans said. ?They are solid, well-grounded ideas designed to respond effectively to the concerns of the state?s citizens and taxpayers.?
McCullough said that a Republican-controlled Legislature in 2008 will enter office with a pledge to cut spending, provide meaningful and long term property tax relief, give a greater voice to the public in government affairs, and demand honesty and integrity in public life.
?The Democrats in power for the past five years have done nothing but raise spending and taxes,? McCullough said. ?Our people have been battered by revelations of corruption in public places and the Democrats in Trenton have responded by saying they?ve done enough and no further action is required.?
?It?s high time for independent people with a dedication to serious reforms to be put in control of state government,? Polistina and Amodeo said. ?The Republican choice for change program is a great way to start that process.?
