Egg Harbor Township ? Atlantic County?s longest serving Surrogate today endorsed Republican nominee Jim Curcio in his quest to win the position and ?return the Surrogate?s office to the people of Atlantic County.? Jan Mathis, who served 30 years in the post, won accolades for her steady leadership and devotion to serving the legal needs of the county?s residents said that she believes that her legacy would be better served if Curcio were elected this November.
?The position of Surrogate is one where the needs of the people must come first. I believe that Jim Curcio is the kind of leader who will put the residents of Atlantic County first and return the office?s focus to the people,? said Ms. Mathis in her endorsement. ?He has the skills, judgment, and experience to be an outstanding advocate for the citizens. I will be voting for Jim Curcio for Surrogate on November 2nd and I encourage every Atlantic County voter to join me in voting for him.?
?I thank Jan for her enthusiastic support and for her example of dedicated, selfless service to our county as the Surrogate,? said Mr. Curcio. ?I have often said that, should I be elected, I would be a Surrogate in the ?Jan Mathis? model and her endorsement is a big sign that we are on the right track. I welcome her support and echo her call; let?s return the Surrogate?s office to the people once again on Election Day.?
Ms. Mathis served as Atlantic County Surrogate from 1975 until her retirement in 2005 where one of her signature accomplishments was working with the State Legislature to pass laws designed to improve services delivered by the 21 County Surrogates to all the residents of New Jersey.
