U.S. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement about a bipartisan Congressional Delegation trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan he participated in during the recent district work period. LoBiondo was invited on the trip by House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Silvestre Reyes (TX-16) to assess intelligence and security needs in the region.
?The stability of Afghanistan and Pakistan is critical to the security of the United States and the international community. In increased detail beyond previous trips to the region, I witnessed the vital role that intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities are playing to assist military forces. Those critical contributions cannot be overstated. The men and women of the defense and intelligence community whom we met with are exceptional at what they do. They remain focused and dedicated to their mission and are confident in their ability to exceed in the challenges before them.
?I will continue to examine closely what we are providing in terms of support and resources to our dedicated brave men and women risking their lives to bring stability and security to this region.?
LoBiondo was in Afghanistan and Pakistan from April 12 until April 18, 2009. Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-1) was also on the trip. This is LoBiondo?s sixth trip to the region, with his last occurring in April 2008. Due to the highly classified nature of the trip, Congressman LoBiondo is unable to comment further about the fact-finding mission.
