Nelson Gaskill, an incumbent Hamilton Township Committeeman, changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican today.
?The Republican Party represents good government for Hamilton Township, and I want good government for Hamilton Township,? said Gaskill. ?The local Democrat Party over the years has drifted away from providing the positive leadership that this township needs. I want to join with Mayor Charlie Pritchard and Township Committee Members Amy Gatto, Roger Silva and Joe Nickels in delivering a brighter future for our families in Hamilton Township.?
?We are thrilled to have Nelson Gaskill join our party,? remarks Maureen Bugdon, speaking on behalf of the Hamilton Township Republican Organization. ?Nelson represents all that is best about being a community leader and positive role model, whether through his involvement with youth athletics, our seniors, the fire department, for the hard working families of our community. I know he will be a genuine asset and bright star in the Republican party.?
Gaskill?s move now gives Republicans a 5-0 majority on the Hamilton Township Committee.
Keith Davis, Atlantic County Republican Chairman, said, ?Last November, the citizens in Hamilton voted for the people and the party which are delivering open and honest government. Nelson has always conducted himself beyond reproach. For him, public service is a true calling. Nelson is a perfect fit for our Republican Party. We welcome him and any others who are tired of an Atlantic County Democrat Party which is beholden to the Camden political bosses.?
?I stand here with a long-time friend,? said Congressman Frank LoBiondo. ?When Nelson told me he was joining the Republican Party, I knew he was making a choice consistent with his political philosophy, his heart, and the best interest of the people of Hamilton Township.?
Gaskill just completed his first year on Hamilton Township Committee and is a retired letter carrier in the US Postal Service.
