Atlantic County Republican chairman Keith A. Davis today announced he will convene a county committee meeting next month and invite potential state and county candidates to attend and discuss their interest in seeking office.
?It is important that we conduct a thoroughly open process as we move into this crucial election year,? Davis said. ?Individuals interested in seeking office will have an opportunity to discuss their plans and to offer their qualifications and abilities directly to county committee members.?
Davis said next month?s meeting will enable the county convention later in the Spring to produce a slate of candidates ?with unity and strength and one which will attract broad support from citizens of the county.?
With the Second District State Senate and Assembly seats on the ballot, along with the county executive post and three seats on the Board of Freeholders, ?it is vital to our party to field the strongest possible ticket this Fall,? Davis said.
The chairman said he anticipated a strong and well-financed challenge from the Democrats and ?if our party is to build upon our past successes, we must offer voters an agenda of ideas and vision.?
Davis said that the announcement earlier this week by State Sen. William Gormley that he will not seek re-election this year ?presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the party.?
?We look forward to the emergence of new candidates who can display the strong commitment, dedication and integrity to lead the county in the years ahead,? Davis said.
