Assembly candidates John Amodeo and Vince Polistina today blasted Governor Corzine?s decision to muzzle debate on his reckless toll road sell-off plan until after the election, and challenged him and other Trenton politicians to debate the plan right now and give voters a chance to have their voices heard when it matters.
Amodeo and Polistina said cutting off debate now underscores Corzine and the Trenton politicians disdain for voters and their judgment, and all but guarantees the plan to shove this down the public?s throat early next year without debate, two- years in advance of the next election.
?This is a cop out move by the Governor and the other Trenton politicians supporting this plan,? said Amodeo. ?If they believe in this plan, then debate it right now. By cutting off debate now, they are deliberately attempting to lull voters into a false sense of security, with every intention of ramming this thing through as soon as they are re-elected. It?s disgusting and everything that?s wrong about Trenton.?
Polistina said he was particularly agitated by the Governor using his recent accident as an excuse for cutting off debate about the plan during an election year.
?Like everyone else, I am glad the Governor is recovering from his accident and has learned his lesson to wear a seatbelt and obey the speed limit,? said Polistina. ?But to now use his recovery as an excuse to run away from an open debate about his reckless toll road sell-off scheme is disingenuous at best. Does this mean he also won?t have the energy to campaign for fellow Democrats this Fall? I highly doubt it.?
