Chris Brown for Senate
A lifelong resident of Atlantic County and local small business owner, Chris Brown is a graduate of Holy Spirit High School and attended Rutgers University. Upon graduation, Mr. Brown was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
Mr. Brown served honorably during the first Persian Gulf War. During Operation Desert Shield/Storm, he was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman Badge for his service while spearheading the ground offensive into Iraq. In 2008, Mr. Brown was activated for war a second time by the United States Army to serve his country in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In addition to his service to our country, Mr. Brown has also been involved in service to his local community. He is the founder and President of the Chief Arthur R. Brown, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which has awarded over $265,000 in scholarships to local students since 1992. He is a life member of the Atlantic City Chapter of the NAACP where he served as Chairman of the Legal Redress Committee. Additionally, he is a member of American Legion, AMVETS, Jewish War Veterans of America, Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Brown has been recognize many times for his community service by receiving the Kiwanis Club Key Award, the NAACP Dedication to Community Award, the Boys and Girls Club Community Appreciation Award, the Art Dorrington Hockey Foundation Award for Volunteerism, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity award as Volunteer of the Year, AMVETS’s Assemblyman of the Year, Distinguished Arts Advocate Award from the ArtPride New Jersey Foundation, the Thom Schiavo Humanitarian Award from Beth El Synagogue, Margate, Political Award from the Fellowship Churches in Atlantic City and Vicinity, and the Clare Sabatini Community Award from the New Jersey Shore Arts Association.
Mr. Brown is currently serving his third term in the General Assembly representing the Second Legislative District and has seats on the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee and the Assembly Regulatory Oversight and Reform and Federal Relations Committee.
In his short time in General Assembly, Mr. Brown has established himself as a staunch advocate for the families and retirees of Atlantic County, particularly in leading the fight against North Jersey casinos. Mr. Brown has sponsored laws to enhance New Jersey’s tourism industry, assist veterans transitioning to the civilian workforce, and insure women receive access to preventative health care.
Mr. Brown resides in Ventnor and is married to Christine, and has three children, Matthew, Daniel and Mallory.
